Huron’s east face has always looked like fun to me, and it found its way into this weeks agenda. After camping the night before at Rockdale the stream crossing made for an interesting start to the day. We put on the shoes and waded across, the deepest section hit about mid calf. I will say one thing, water that cold, never feels good at 3 in the friggin morning. We ditched our shoes for the boots and wandered up the road. We started hitting snow patches about a half mile in, and started skinning about 1 mile in. We skinned up the road to the summer TH, and continued on up and around cloyses lake. We followed tracks and openings up to treeline in the basin, and watched as the east face was just never really getting much sun. No hurry I guess… We skinned up the basin, and as much fun as avy debris is to climb we opted for the ridge and made our way up to the shoulder of the ridge. From here it was an easy, straightforward climb to the summit. We kept having glimmers of hope for sun, but we seemed to be in a rut where sun would hit everywhere around us, except for our peak. Oh well, hopefully the edges are sharp. We dropped in and skied the east face to the valley floor, stopping to take pictures of course…and here they are:
