Vera Simonsson enjoying he snow up there. I think the smile on her face says it all.
As with anyone at the 5point film festival this year, I enjoyed the presentation by Inga, Emma, and Vera. In a nutshell they did an 80 day, 1,200 kilometer traverse across Baffin Island in Northeastern Canada. More here. I had the pleasure of taking them skiing after the festival for a day of powder up in the Ragged Mountains.
As you can imagine, all of them are strong in the skintrack and let’s just say I wasn’t doing any waiting around. We left town mid morning and made the casual drive up to the start of our skin track.
Emma and Vera enjoying the sunshine during a quick break on the way up.
I always enjoy being up high in the Elks. The views just never get old to me.
Treasure.
Nearing the top of our skin track.
Emma Simonsson gaining the summit as the clouds roll in.
Looking up towards the Anthracites.
I dropped in to take a few photos. I was glad I did. The background was pretty cool and the skiers were pretty good. Inga wasn’t feeling the first lap so she hungout on the ridge and waited for us to come back up.
Vera came down and she wasn’t moving slow:
The snow was a fast consolidated pow. Super fun snow to make big fast turns on, and Vera was doing just that.
And by she went.
Emma’s turn:
Emma drops the knee. But at the end of the day she'd decided that she will be picking up an AT setup next.
The snow really is as good as it looks.
The last little bit.
At the bottom its time to put the skins on and climb back up to Inga and ski on back towards the car.
Vera, Inga, and Emma.
I'm feeling like a lucky guy. Beautiful day, great snow, and great ladies to hang out with.
Inga dropping in and dropping the knee. Borrowed gear head to tow, these ladies can still make it look good.
Emma finding more good snow.
Vera letting the run again.
Some of the last few turns were still good all the way to the bottom.
If you get a chance head down to Mountain Film in Telluride and check their presentation out. You won’t regret it.
