Traveling, Ski Mountaineering and Climbing in Colorado and…

Day 3-Sussing things out.

The storm that came in last night produced a little snow and a lot of wind. We opt to take an easier line today and check out the snowpack. We notice some windloading, but it seems to bond well and is stable. Our first view of the Wham ridge doesn’t really make it look appealing as it is covered in brown sustrugi.

Oh well, we head off to explore the basin between Vestal and West Trinity. We notice some appetizing lines, but still choose the most mellow for our first day up here, not wanting to push the envelope right away.

The line we skied is the small bowl just to the left of Ben.

Eventually we tire of sitting in the cool breeze and decide that a day in the sun at camp to dry everything out would be a good thing. Time to ski!
