Traveling, Ski Mountaineering and Climbing in Colorado and…

Japan day 3– still on Niseko

I'm guessing he is smiling, but its hard to tell. I was smiling.

It snowed most of the afternoon yesterday, all night last night, most of the day today, and as I write this it is still snowing. Easily 2 feet of fresh fell on leeward aspects today. We took full advantage while skiing with new found friends Kate Kuncova, Henry Baldwin, and James Winfield.

In some ways Niseko is starting to remind me of Aspen, with the different crews that ski together. Problem is that most of them just straight line. You have the straightline snowboard crew, you have the fullface telemark crew that straightlines, and you have the Ausies that buy JJ Armadas and do their best to imitate the other straightline crews, and this itself is really a scary prospect. But lets not forget the whiskey, ramen, van sleeping crew. We don’t fit in, but we are having fun.

Again we skied side country just out the resort gates. Nothing to complain about today. Hopefully these storms continue across the pacific and smack Colorado with some good stuff.

Some pics tell most of the story… I think we may do more of a tour tomorrow.

James finds a pillowy tree to jump out of. Times are fun.

I'm there somewhere. Too much skiing, not much time for pics. So thats "what I got." Cheers.

According to Caleb: “You’re in the white room so long, that eventually you’re gonna come out and hit a tree.”

I’ll take the odds….
