Traveling, Ski Mountaineering and Climbing in Colorado and…

Mount Rainier–Skiing the Fuhrer Finger

Tyler and I had been talking for a while about either going to CA or WA to ski a peak or two and in the end we decided that Washington was gonna be pretty sweet.  Caleb put a bug in my ear one day and it turns out he was talking about the same weekend, and whatdaya know…he wants to ski it too.  Plans were made, flights were purchased, and the gear was organized.  We were on our way to a new world of ski mountaineering.

We arrived thursday night and after some abnormally large mugs of beer and some dinner we hit the road for Paradise.  After a nights sleep we found ourselves awakened by the sunrise.  We packed up and headed on up to the ranger station to pay our entry fee to Paradise.

Loaded up with gear we started up the well worn trail towards the Nisqually glacier.  Along the way I ran into Lindsey, a girl that I took my Wilderness First Responder class with.  She is now guiding for RMI.  Pretty cool.

We marched on towards high camp and slept well that night (at least I did.)  I would love to tell you the rest of the story, but Caleb’s pictures are just too good,  so here is the link to Lou’s site where the whole write-up can be found.

Thanks for reading
