Traveling, Ski Mountaineering and Climbing in Colorado and…

The Best Ski Season (so far) of My Life

Unemployment has it’s benefits.  Like having the time to seek out and ski powder every day.  Like anyone I would prefer to have a job, but when the economy gets as bad as it has (especially for the construction industry), I figure I may as well take advantage of the opportunity.  I think we’ve done alright so far.  I consider all of this training for our big Denali trip. Outside of the first couple weeks of the season ripping down man made snow at the resort, I don’t think I could have asked for better snow conditions on a lean year.  Although, just for good measure, I did go down and try to ski a couple of those 14er things with Caleb last week.

I think that Caleb would like to be hitting the whole 14er skiing thing full force right now, but it seems as though mother nature isn’t agreeing with him right now.  I guess we’ll see soon.  That doesn’t mean he doesn’t take the occasional break to come ski some powder here and there.  He headed up to the Ashcroft area with me a couple weeks ago to ski some fluff, not as good as other parts of the Elks but we found some entertainment.

That was really just a preview for the weekend though as a group of 12 of us headed up to the Mace hut for weekend of skiing, the conditions weren’t disappointing.

Pictures don’t always tell the story.  But sometimes they do, especially when you have to wipe your goggles damn near every turn just to be able to ski.  One of my other BC spots has been producing lately as well.

Thats about it for now, enjoy the snow out there.  That is if you don’t live in the front range.  If you live in the front range….pray.
