Traveling, Ski Mountaineering and Climbing in Colorado and…

What Better Way to Spend a Memorial Day?

Yeah, Yeah, I know… I’ve had 10 people ask me about Alaska trip reports… Coming, I promise.

This past memorial day was the 7 year anniversary of the death of my father. Brad Unglert and John Sloven-gill opted to join me for a climb of North Maroon. The day was beautiful, the sun was out, the snow was (for the most part) firm, and the company was good. We opted for a tour de North Maroon. There is a couloir to climbers left of the gunsight that is mostly hidden by the north face. This provides access to the northwest ridge and in my opinion the fastest way up North Maroon albeit with slightly more exposed climbing than the standard route. Makes it more fun right?

Exposed climbing on the northwest ridge. This being the first time I’ve done it sans skis on my back, I found it to be rather straightforward in comparison to earlier trips.

John is happy to be here, and maybe a bit tired…

Curious little fellow and I hung out for about 20 minutes.

Until the next climb.

Ok, I’ll start working on Alaska now….

    Beautiful – thank you Jordan.
And straightforward exposed climbing…do those words go together?
The chunkiness of those peaks are always amazing.
