Traveling, Ski Mountaineering and Climbing in Colorado and…

Triple Sport Days and a weekend out of town.

Double sport, or triple sport, or hell even quadruple sport days are one of the benefits and novelties of living in the mountains, and Elisabeth decided she was up for one. We got out of town early on Saturday morning and headed up the pass for a quick Mountain Boy ski. The conditions were perfect corn skiing all the way back to the highway below.

After a quick hitchhike to the top we packed up and headed down to the east side of Independence pass for a bit of rock climbing on Monitor rock. 5 pitches brought us to the top of the nose and the walk off the back side proved to be sportier than the climb itself.

We packed up again and headed towards Buena Vista for an obligatory lunch stop at K’s.

Next it was off towards Gunnison and Hartman rocks for a short 9 mile ride on Jacks trail, Rocky ridge, Josho’s, and the notch before camping for the night way out in the middle of BLM land away from everyone.

We rode until almost dark. This area is well worth a visit!

It was a great day and we went to bed full of Bison steaks and fire baked potatoes.

Camp site for the night. No one even near us. Pretty fun to be way out there with the convenience of a truck.

After a lazy wake up and lunch at the Sherpa restaurant in Gunnison we headed towards Salida and did some riding on the trails right out of town before dinner next to the river.
